GTA 6 Marketing Takes the Streets: A Hollywood Mural, a Brooklyn Wall, Chicago Buses and Times Square

Speculated

From mid-October, GTA 6 outdoor advertising appeared at once on Hollywood Boulevard, in Brooklyn, across Chicago and in Times Square: giant Jason and Lucia murals, a hand-painted Colossal Media wall, wrapped double-decker buses and Spotify soundtrack billboards. Separately, an Xbox promo image drew suspicion because its GTA 6 tile showed no 'pre-order' label.

Overview

On the first weekend after the launch trailer, GTA 6 outdoor advertising landed in several US cities at once. VICE's tracking lists:

  • Hollywood Boulevard: the giant Jason and Lucia mural is finished and already a landmark.
  • Brooklyn: Colossal Media hand-painted a GTA 6 wall covering an entire building face.
  • Chicago: double-decker sightseeing buses wrapped in the game's pink-and-blue livery toured the city.
  • New York: Times Square digital screens plus Spotify soundtrack-campaign billboards; one fan parked their GTA 4 police-cruiser conversion in front of the GTA 6 mural for photos.
  • Los Angeles: Spotify music billboards, after Netflix's earlier "I ♥ VICE CITY" display on Sunset Boulevard.

It connects to everything before it — the blimp, the arena roof sign, magazine covers, the DAZED feature, Game Informer's cover story. Two months out, Rockstar is running outdoor, music, fashion and sports channels at once; a Miami-Dade commissioner puts the spend at a minimum of $150 million.

One sideshow. On October 27, Xbox posted a promo image captioned "what our autumn is looking like," with GTA 6 on the home screen. The post drew 2.71 million views, but players noticed one detail: the GTA 6 tile showed no "pre-order" label. Replies ranged from "this guy has early access" to questions about why the Rockstar logo appeared where it shouldn't. Neither Xbox nor Rockstar has commented — it's community speculation with no evidence anyone is playing early.
