GTA 6's Ratings Are In Worldwide: 19+ in Korea, CERO Z in Japan — and One Common Misread
Korea's GCRB issued its adults-only (19+) ruling on October 16, Japan's CERO followed with Z (18+), and with ESRB M, PEGI 18, USK 18 and Australia's R18+ already in place, GTA 6 now sits in the top standard adult tier everywhere. One clarification: North America is M (17+), not ESRB Adults Only — those are different classifications entirely.

One misread worth clearing up. Recent headlines call GTA 6 "adults only." The ESRB does have a tier literally named Adults Only (AO), but it is separate from M, and console makers plus major retailers generally won't carry AO titles. GTA 6 is rated M, not AO. The accurate framing: it sits in the strictest standard adult tier that mainstream stores will carry, in every major market.
Korea's ruling carries extra weight. Since November 1, 2025, adults-only classification for PC and console games moved from the government-run GRAC to the private GCRB, and GTA 6 is the highest-profile title reviewed since. The precedent cuts both ways: GTA 5 got an adult rating and launched there in 2013, while Danganronpa V3 was refused classification in 2017 over antisocial depictions and could not be officially distributed. GTA 6 passing means no regulatory hurdle remains in that market.
Japan still has an open question. CERO Z is only an age gate, but GTA 5's Japanese release was edited for certain sexual scenes and graphic content. As of now nothing official says GTA 6's Japanese build differs — treat any claim of a censored version as speculation.
