Take-Two Shareholder Meeting: No Recurrent Spending Expected at GTA 6 Launch, PC Still Unannounced
At Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting on September 17, CEO Strauss Zelnick said there is "no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch", while the PC platform is "becoming more and more important" — but stopped short of confirming a PC version or a date.
Overview
Take-Two held its annual shareholder meeting on September 17, two months before Grand Theft Auto VI ships on November 19. Rockstar announced nothing there, and CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that "more specific marketing information will, of course, come from Rockstar Games". Still, the meeting produced three things worth logging.
No recurrent spending at launch. Asked about GTA Online's place in GTA VI, Zelnick said: "There's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch," adding that GTA Online in GTA V "continues to be a robust business for us". Recurrent consumer spending is Take-Two's own term for post-sale revenue — Shark Cards, virtual currency, add-ons. He said "anticipated" rather than a flat no, and declined to describe what happens after launch, consistent with Rockstar having published nothing about a GTA VI online mode.
Still no PC commitment. Zelnick said Take-Two launches "for any platforms for which there is a meaningful audience" and that "the PC is becoming more and more important to our company over time". He gave no date, no window, and no confirmation that a PC version is in development. Pre-orders remain PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. For reference, GTA V reached PC about 19 months after its console launch; Red Dead Redemption 2 took roughly 12 months.
A rare flash of irritation. An investor put it to the board that many shareholders "have tolerated years of delays, missed expectations, and continued dependence on a small number of major franchises". Zelnick read the question back in full before answering. "I would, however, quibble with your characterization in the question," he said, then detailed his own record: when the current team took over in March 2007 the stock was $17, revenue under a billion dollars, the company under investigation by at least four government entities and nearly bankrupt; revenue this year is guided to $8–8.2 billion, with stock appreciation of roughly 1,200% since 2007 against 440% for the S&P 500.
